December Report 2009

 Highlights

  • 4 operations carried out against 11 suspects.
  • Operations started against 4 international parrot traffickers in Douala – Littoral following the seizure of more than 300 parrots.
  • A network of 4 ivory dealers busted in Meyomessala – South Region.
  • An operation carried out against 2 dealers in Mamfe – South West for killing an elephant and illegally trading in the products.
  • A dealer arrested in Bazou – West Region for illegal detention of a chimp.
  • LAGA family goes for holiday.
  • LAGA annual objectives met with 1 case per week and 1 media piece per day.

 

November Report 2009

Highlights

  • A strong letter of support from 7 Ambassadors as LAGA faces threats in line of their work in wildlife law enforcement and the fight against corruption.
  • 3 dealers were sentenced this month.
  • A dealer, also a recidivist who threatened the team with his gun was arrested in Djoum – South Region for illegally trading in protected wildlife species.
  • LAGA holds a general meeting on how to tackle problems for a better functioning of the organization.

 

 

October Report 2009

Highlights

 
• 3 big International Ivory Dealers arrested in Brazzaville after crossing over the river
from Kinshasa – DRC following the continuation of replication in these 2 countries
followed by a French TV crew.
• A new PALF coordinator in The Republic of Congo.
• 3 members of the network dealing in protected bush meat arrested in Yaounde-Center.
• 2 ivory dealers arrested in Bengbis – South Region.
• An ivory dealer arrested in Yaounde – Center Region following work done with an
international investigator..
• A total of 4 operations against 9 subjects carried out during this month.
• 3 dealers were sentenced this month.

 September Report 2009

Highlights


• LAGA Activities replicated in the Central African Republic.
• 2 principal International Ivory Dealers arrested in unprecedented operations in The
Central African Republic.
• About 1 ton of ivory seized during the bursting of an international ivory trade network
in Douala – Littoral Region.
• 4 dealers were sentenced this month.
• A dealer, also a recidivist and threatened the team with his gun was arrested in Djoum
– South Region for illegally trading in live primates other protected wildlife species.
• Head of Legal Department makes a presentation on Internet wildlife trade during the
Conference of the Interpol Wildlife Working Group in Brazil.

 

August Report 2009

Highlights


• LAGA uncovered that a Senior Divisional Officer is involved in illegal trade in elephant
products.
• A principal Internet wildlife dealer arrested in Buea – South West Region.
• A well known dealer arrested in Bengbis – South Region with a rifle and ammunitions.
• 3 wildlife dealers convicted to serve 1 year imprisonment each for illegally trading in
worked ivory.

 

July Report 2009

Highlights


• A well known dealer arrested in Somalomo – East. Investigations show that a Gendarme
officer supplies him arms and ammunition used for poaching.
• A principal Internet wildlife dealer arrested in Bamenda – North West Region.
• 2 dealers arrested in Bafoussam – West for illegally trading in leopard skins.
• A dealer convicted in Douala – Littoral for illegally killing and trading in a chimp.

 

June Report 2009

Highlights


• A network of 4 wildlife traffickers from Nigeria dealing in live primates busted.
• 3 dealers arrested for killing 2 chimps and regularly trading in chimp meat.
• 2 wildlife dealers convicted for illegally trading in leopard skins.
• A total of 7 dealers arrested.

• Italian Director of a Logging Company arrested with 3 live chimps and 1 big fresh crocodile skin.
• 2 ivory dealers arrested in Abong Mbang – East Region.

  • A dealer trying to sell a full dead chimp killed in a reserve arrested in Douala  Littoral.
  • First prosecution in the Republic of Congo following the replication of LAGA activities.

Highlights

  •  3 operations were carried out this month against 3 suspects.
  • An Internet wildlife dealer engaged in regular trade arrested in collaboration with US authorities while trying to sell primate skulls and falsifying MINFOF Ministers signature.
  • 3 wildlife dealers belonging to a network convicted for illegally trading in a chimp.

January 2009 Report

    government documents and CITES Permits.
